The Casa Museo Jorn in Albissola Marina is the former home of the Danish artist Asger Jorn, who moved to Italy in the 1950s and settled in this Ligurian coastal town. Jorn, known for his vibrant and expressive works, created a unique artwork in this house that combines architecture, painting, ceramics, and sculpture.
History and significance:
In 1957, Asger Jorn acquired two buildings and a plot of land on the hill of Albissola Marina. With the help of local craftsman Umberto "Berto" Gambetta, he transformed the neglected property into a living artwork. Jorn integrated his works into the structure of the house and garden, creating a harmonious connection between art and nature. In 1973, he bequeathed the property to the municipality of Albissola Marina with the intention of using it as a museum. After extensive restoration work, the Casa Museo Jorn was opened to the public in 2014.
